Dressing for cooler weather is something I look forward to all year, but the reality is that I get lazy when the temperature dips below 65 degrees. My focus shifts from trendy to practical, which means I can be found exclusively in different combinations of turtlenecks and high-waisted jeans — with the occasional dramatic long dress — from September through March.
That being said, there is a trick to making these widely underwhelming outfits work, and that’s by adding fun accessories like statement earrings.
We’re not just talking “big” and “bright” (although if you have any big and bright pairs, those will work, too). Some of the most fun options this season are surprisingly subtle, like these squiggle earrings by Wknd, or these tortoise-splashed hoops from newcomer Machete for just $28. On the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find just as many pairs covered in fringe and pom poms, or mismatched shapes like these abstract body-shaped earrings from Knobbly Studio.
Here, we’ve rounded up a good mix of what’s out there right now, no matter your style, to get you inspired.
