Back in January, Coach and Rodarte announced that they were teaming up for a collaboration, an unexpected pairing that nonetheless spoke to the two brands’ needs. Coach has been trying to remake itself as a luxury label with serious fashion cred, and Rodarte’s status as a fashion industry darling could give it that; Rodarte has creativity and cachet but a sales model so hazy that the Washington Post’s Robin Givhan asked, “Does Rodarte actually exist?” Coach’s corporate weight could give it, well, an income.
We were pretty curious what such a collaboration would look like, and now we’ve got our answer, thanks to a Racked tipster. Coach isn’t publicizing the range on its website yet, but if you search “Rodarte,” it’ll send you to its millennial pink landing page, which shows a few early images.
The bags are right in line with Rodarte’s heavily embellished and enchanting-but-dark aesthetic, but the sweaters, which read “This is a Coach Bag” (like René Magritte’s “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” painting in reverse) seem to be the real winners.
The full collection — and, we’d assume, the all-important pricing info — drops on April 18th.
