What's on your checklist for Mr. Right? Great sense of humor, even-tempered, kind to his mother, stuff like that, right? Besides requiring general good hygiene, fresh breath, and hoping for a nice smile, most of us probably like to think we're not completely superficial when it comes down to making a relationship work. Right?
Or do you, like many women, have a secret fashion dealbreaker?
No matter how perfect the fella is, ladies over at Jezebel won't put up with socks with sandals, Axe body spray, "porn-y facial hair," and "serial-killer glasses." And in today's WWD, writer Vanessa Lawrence let a relationship fizzle because she couldn't quash the image of the guy's nylon messenger bag from her memory:
But then his bag?oh God, that bag. A black nylon rip-stop messenger monstrosity draped over his arm and causing even his tall, muscular frame to bend sideways under its weight. What kind of successful, self-respecting thirtysomething man would walk around carrying a techie conference on his shoulder to a first date? What are your fashion dealbreakers? Have you ever broken up with a guy because he refused to stop wearing bright-orange sneakers out in public? Tell us in the comments.Needless to say, our courtship didn't last very long. I gave him two more dates—mainly because I wanted to see his apartment (this is New York, after all, where real estate is crucial). And there were other reasons—namely, chemistry—why we weren't meant to be. But I could never erase the mental image of that Silicon Valley sack.
Don't be shy ladies, guys break up with girls all the time over fashion. Seriously. One of our buddies broke up with a girl he'd been dating for two years because she wouldn't stop carrying a Coach bag. True story.
