The Adventures of Francois Nars: Launching Bento Box in Asia

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Makeup artist Francois Nars took a two-week jaunt through Asia recently, making personal appearances in Seoul and Hong Kong where he autographed his new kabuki-inspired Bento Boxes at Galleria (Seoul) and Lane Crawford (Hong Kong).

"I love Asia," Nars said. "It inspired my creativity so much. I love ancient cultures. Hong Kong is very futuristic and reminds me of New York a lot. I love the buildings at night. They are full of neon lights that are reflected in the bay. I also love the street markets, people, and landscapes. I've tried to capture as much of it as possible."
