Tips on Surviving Black Friday

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Black Friday—the first "official" day of the holiday shopping season—will be upon us next week, and, well, if you've ever ventured outdoors on Black Fridays in years past, you'll know it's serious business. So serious, in fact, that people have been killed and shot-up while scrabbling over money-saving deals. The folks over at The Survivors Club—a site dedicated to surviving just about anything you can think of to survive—have assembled a list of tips on how to survive Black Friday. The list includes strategies to pre-plan and ways to avoid overspending. Worth a peek if you're planning on shopping the day after Thanksgiving. [TSC]
