Iman: "I am in Favor of a Little Vanity. I Don't Rely on Just My Genes."

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

For the December issue of Harper's Bazaar, supermodel and fashion personality—and host of the premiering-tonight The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection Bravo-show—Iman gave an interview to an ostrich, above. Okay, we're just kidding about the ostrich part. Here's what she said:

On glamour: “I believe in glamour. I am in favor of a little vanity. I don't rely on just my genes. Looking good is a commitment to yourself and to others. Wigs, killer heels, Pilates, even fillers—whatever works for you, honey.”

On her marriage with David Bowie: “David doesn't fight. He is English, so he just stays quiet. I'm the screamer. Then he always makes me laugh. It's like cabaret. I keep him entertained too. I still fancy him—totally!—after all these years.” “I vowed to myself when I got married that I would cook every night. I find it very therapeutic.”

On her favorite young designer: “Alexander Wang is one of my favorites. But he is like my daughter. He is like 12.”
