WWD is reporting that after letting Julie Gilhart go, the new management at Barneys has got its eyes on Vogue's Virginia Smith (right) and Lane Crawford's Sarah Rutson as possible fashion director replacements. "The search has begun and is ongoing," a Barneys spokesperson told WWD. "We intend to meet many candidates but no decisions have been made." With all the hiring and firing going on at the luxury fashion store, the question on everyone's mind is whether the much-beloved Simon Doonan will remain in Barneys employ after his contract expires in May.
