Everything old is new again. From Louis Vuitton reissuing century-old leather collections to Dior re-releasing fragrances from the '50s, heritage is the luxury fashion industry word du jour. No surprise to us plebs — we've been watching the frenzied market interest in classic Americana (see, for example, J. Crew and Michael Bastian) for years. Even fashion fashion is cashing in — Forever 21 has been launching standalone Heritage 1981 stores, which sells fewer spangly dresses and more casual and sportswear pieces, in malls all over the country. Heritage, 1981, indeed. Just further proof that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
