Sea World officials say that the trainer who was pulled to her death by a killer whale this week made the mistake of trailing her ponytail in the water. "She wasn't, obviously, watching what she was doing with her ponytail and the ponytail drifted into the water.," said Thad Lacinak, her former coach. "It was a novel item in the water, and he [the whale] grabbed hold of it, not necessarily in an aggressive way." Tourists watching through the glass witnessed the whale attack Dawn Brancheau; this is the third human death associated with this orca. [BBC]
