In a survey of 5,000 bag-carriers, researchers found that 6% of men carry around a spare pair of underwear in their bags&8212;compared to only 3% of women. Men were also more likely to carry around their pet dog in a bag—5% of men claimed ownership of a dog carrier, while only 1% of women do. Cell phones are the most popular handbag item, with 43% of men and 85% of women carrying them. The average handbag clocked in at 23 pounds—the weight of a small child!
