Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Back in the early-90s, Dr. Martens were—for the Britpop-slash-New-Wave inspired, grrl-power lites, and Sassy magazine readers— the shoe of choice. Docs have been making a quiet comeback of sorts in the past few years, showing up on Parisian runways, on the most fashionable feet, in luxury European boutiques, and in cahoots with designers including Yohji Yamamoto and Raf Simons. We love the new Dr. Martens collaboration with Opening Ceremony—we've always been partial to the stitchless Docs and the new matte colors (purple, white, and green) are just marvy.
