Yankee Candle, Take 500

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Candle behemoth Yankee Candle will be opening its 500th store on Monday morning. The chain, which employs 5,000 people nationally and 1,500 in Massachusetts alone, will open this, its 34th Massachusetts location, at the Square One Mall in Saugus. "Yankee Candle has been based in Massachusetts since we got our start more than four decades ago, and we feel it is very fitting that this exciting event is taking place here in our home state," Yankee Candle CEO Harlan Kent said.
