Why do I love my job so much as a stylist? One word: Shopping.
To go out in the market and preview all the gorgeous clothes right off the runway, then see how each store buys the collection is so exciting. Then, to see how all of us individually put them together is the best part—it's icing on fashion's proverbial cake. I love to see how all the trends get worn and translated to a woman's everyday wardrobe.
And you want to know my big style tip? Mix designer with mass—and you become you.
Here are some of the trends I see in the market right now.
Military: Heelllooooo, but is this not the cutest jacket? It's $160 from Topshop and a fresh take on military AND girlie: double breasted with feminine flattering mesh hem.
Stripes: Nothing says spring/summer 2010 more than stripes. I love love a mish/mash and this striped top (www.zara.com) with shoulder embellishment is a fave of mine.
Fantastic Prints: Again, don't be afraid to wear print! This more artistic and subtle detail from Nigel Preston & Knight has a fantastic laser-cut heart cutout in the back.
Denim, Denim, and let me say it again, Denim: is the causal version of the little black dress—a must have in every woman's wardrobe. Why not mix two trends, denim and a motorcycle jacket? Always in style and what a great mix of cool. I was instantly drawn to the wash of this zipper front GAP version—easy cool rock-&-roll, and on-sale for $29.99!
T-shirts: I love my Logo Instant Chic T-shirt dress more than any other piece. Why? T-shirts rule my wardrobe and this item is one stop shopping—great with leggings for day, or alone, and at night, belt this and you are ready.
The Bag: It's great that our bags are basically a wardrobe unto themselves—our big day bags for work, and our great little evening bags. The Hermes cross body bag has so many functions—I use these bags for weekend hands-free to have my phone, iPod and digital camera at the ready; for evenings, it's a pop of color.
