Last spring, Revlon released a limited-edition set of tropical-fruit scented nail polish. Looks like it did so well, the company is launching a new set of finger-fragrancers this season—this time in summer-inspired scents including Beach, Cotton Candy, Gum Drop, Grape Icy, Ocean Breeze, Orange Pop, Bubble Gum, and Peach Smoothie—available for $7.99 in drugstores now through mid-summer.
Revlon sent over a set, so we took the varnishes for an around-the-office test-drive. We were bowled over by how delicious and true-to-life they smell (when dry—try to resist the temptation to stick the bottle up your nose and inhale the wet fumes, since they're a little noxious). The shimmering, chartreuse Beach shade smelled fresh, like warm sand and tanning oil and everything named after a candy flavor pretty much smelled just as delicious. (Confession: They kind of make us drool.)
So, brilliant idea, right? Smelly fingers all around?
Only one of our guinea pigs had a caveat—and a good point at that:
The bubble gum scented bright pink nail polish seemed like a good idea at the time. And the polish itself is really excellent: quick drying, shiny, smooth. But after having it on for ten minutes, I want it off. Every time I put my hair behind my ears or take a sip of my water I smell this weird, processed bubble gum scent. It's really strong, and it's driving me nuts. Maybe it dissipates with time. All in all, though, two smelly thumbs up!
