FreeCity Leaves Malibu Behind for an Industrial Corner of Hollywood

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Whoa, major news for FreeCity die-hards on the west coast: the FreeCitySupershop in Malibu is relocating to Hollywood, effective late summer. The new 3,000 square foot space—dubbed the FreeCitySupershop Supermat—will be located on Highland Avenue.

“We want everyone who visits the Hollywood Neighborhood FREECITYsupershop supermat to walk away with an experience,” says founder Nina Garduno. “This place will be fantasy in a box.”

The store will feature the hand-crafted (five blocks away at the FreeCity workshop) clothing, music, books, and other stuff that FreeCity's become famous for.
