New Yorkers might already be familiar with Big Drop. New York-based, there are two Big Apple locations, one on the Upper East Side and another at Spring Street and West Broadway. But, Big Drop's recently-opened Miami location is the one to watch. For one, it's huge—several times larger than either New York space. Secondly, and as a result of all that square footage, they've been able to add menswear.
Their menswear collection is a lot like what they have happening for the ladies. Denim lines abut contemporary brands with streetwear in between. Jeans and tees are folded next to racks of dressier tailored pieces and party dresses. Price points run the gamut. Labels range from the unfamiliar (but cute) to established and coveted: Phillip Lim, J Brand (yes, relax, they stock the cargoes every women is frothing over), Elizabeth & James, Rebecca Taylor, Corpus and Ksubi among them. It's a lifestyle, it's day to night, and the stock pointedly reflects the swinging Miami location.
For beach: Find a massive array of swimwear and buckets of Havianas plus colorful, breezy maxidresses, peasant tops, tees and tanks accessorized by floppy beach hats and straw fedoras, exclusive sunglasses, rattan totes and sherbet-tinted baseball caps. And make no mistake, kids seriously club in Miami. Enter short and slinky print dresses, a huge array of denim, Creative Recreation kicks, and a daunting selection of chunky, fun jewelry for night.
The stock isn't quiet—it's not supposed to be. Nor is the hipper-than-thou Gansevoort Miami Beach Hotel location. It's currently one of the hotels for staying, for partying, for scene-ing. The space, however, is a blank canvas, with crisp white walls, the simplest of kelly accents, and modern groupings of spherical light fixtures allowing all the print and color, all the logos and baubles, all the Miami hipsters and bold-faced names, to be the stars.
