If you're on stores/brands/retailers' mailing lists, have you noticed a sharp uptick in the number of messages you're getting from them? A Consumerist reader has been inundated with emails from The Limited and is getting seriously annoyed:
I don't know if it is just me, but lately (as in the last year or so), the number of store emails I have been receiving has increased 10 fold. I am on the distribution list for several stores I regularly shop at. I like to be on lists to get notice of special deals and the like. Sadly, I have found myself having to unsubscribe from many lists because I seriously started received at least one email a week. With the store the Limited, I was receiving daily emails! When I went to unsubscribe from The Limited's email list, it asked if I wanted to just reduce the number of emails to once a week. My question is, who seriously WANTS to receive store emails daily or even once a week??? I just don't get it.Yes, we have noticed that our inbox is filled with 6,000 unread emails from random retailers—how we even got on some of these mailing lists is a mystery. We're pretty sure we've never bought anything at CoutureCandy; L.L. Bean emails us every single day, all because we bought one tote bag in the last year; Topshop is a master-emailer, depositing at least one "Style Note" in our inbox on a regular 24-hour basis; and if we had a nickel for every time the Gap and Banana Republic email us, well, let's just say we'd have a lot of nickels.
Which companies email you the most? What do you do about it? Us, we've pretty much given up—we've resigned ourselves to the inevitability of a spammed-up inbox and we don't even bother deleting junk mail. We've also found that unsubscribing doesn't even work half the time. Have you reached the end of your tether too?
