Remember Trinny and Susannah, the straight-talking, quirky British ambush makeover artists who became the founders and masters of the genre with their genius series What Not to Wear? It inspired a bazillion spin-offs (including unabashed copycats), an endless series of books, and even a line of branded control-top underwear.
But ever since their original show on ITV in the UK got the axe in 2007, the two style experts have kind of been cut adrift from their adoring public. We've hardly heard a peep from then since. Until now.
Last week, the duo released the first webisode of What They Did Next, a hilairous mockumentary detailing, well, what they did after the cameras and flash bulbs went away.
So, what have the terrible twosome been doing? Well, if you believe the fly-on-the-wall show (which is only loosely based in reality), they've been drinking, smoking, getting dumped by the agents, harrassing strangers on the street, and having their "naked buttocks pummelled in a big to retain that pert derriere," says the Sunday Times magazine.
"It's celebrating failure," Trinny tells the Times. "There's a small part of you watching, hoping that people don't really think it's real. You don't want to offend your pride, or your 10 years' work. But then you think, that's what makes it good. A friend of mine came to a screening, then called me and said, 'You didn't tell me your agent fired you.' She'd believed it and was too embarrassed to call me."
So far the webisodes—bankrolled by Westfield, a shopping center in London, the production company t5m, and iVillage.co.uk—have garnered about 500,000 views online, about 50,000 each day.
