Simon Doonan Designs Halloween Costume Couture for Target

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Barneys creative director Simon Doonan tries his hand at mass market this October with the launch of his Costume Couture for Target collection—a series of whimsical, be-sloganed costumes that will be priced from $9.99 (dogs) to $25 (kids) to $30 (grown-ups).

Costumes have clever phrases scrawled on them, such as “Trick or Trend” and “Chic or Treat” in the case of the Glamor Ghost costume. A Diva Witch dress is emblazoned with the legends “Fashion Fiend” and “Honk If I’m Fierce.” “You want to be a siren, a seductive witch,” explained Doonan.
The collection lands in stores on September 12 and online at this Sunday.
