Last night, Manhattan's High Line witnessed something so spectacular, it's hard to describe in words (and that's why Racked is bringing you the video).
In a weird twist of American financial circumstance, in what amounts to a profound statement on the growing influence of affordable fast-fashion culture, Target, one of the world's largest retailers and purveyors of inexpensive designer collaborations by the likes of Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, and Anna Sui, staged what may have been the most expensive fashion show ever put on outside of the official New York fashion week schedule. The company bought out the entire Standard Hotel, hired dozens of dancers and models to perform a synchronized show in the hotel windows while what has to be one of the most ambitious light shows the fashion industry has ever seen played out, larger than life. We're hearing rumors that total production costs topped $1.5 million.
Check out the video (above) showing clips of what the Target production team created—preceded by short clips of interviews with attendees Penn Badgley and Mary-Louise Parker on how they shop Target. Also in attendance were Nina Garcia, Olivia Palermo, Katrina Bowden, and Harvey Weinstein with his very-pregnant Marchesa-designing wife Georgina Chapman.
