Yesterday, when we found out that a fashion blogger now owns the San Diego Saks Fifth Avenue sign, we couldn't help but dig a little deeper. So we contacted Christianna Ablahad, who writes Fashion Makes Me Horny, to find out how on earth the 3.5-foot-tall sign came into her possession.
"My sister was perusing the 'Free' section on Craigslist and found them there," Ablahad told Racked. "The Craigslist listing title was 'Tall Metal Letters.' Nothing about Saks, a dept. store or anything. When I got to the construction guy's house, the letters were on his lawn.
"Apparently, one of the construction project managers was paid to take them away and just wanted to get rid of them," she said. "I'm amazed that no employee at Saks wanted them or even asked for them. So they were free. Luckily, my little Toyota's backseat folds forward, so I was able to carefully pile them on top of each other. One more letter wouldn't have fit. They squeaked all the way home."
As for where the iconic sign will live in its forever-home? "I haven't found a place yet," Ablahad says, "but I'm going to start experimenting soon."
