A Skate Park Grows in Brooklyn

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Cooler than cool: our sister site Racked NY is reporting that Vans has just signed a lease on a 15,000 square foot space at 25 Franklin in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Word on the street is that the shoe company is about to open a skate park in that location. "Not only is the space big, but it's also column-free, making it an ideal location for the indoor skate park Vans wants to create. Local skaters shouldn't get too excited, though: According to the Eagle, Vans will use the building (and the 4,500 square feet of outdoor space that comes with it) for marketing and promotional events, meaning that any half-pipes they do build won't be open to the public."
