In all the Fashion Week frenzy, yesterday's MTV Video Music Awards almost slipped by unnoticed in this fashion-obsessed city. So in homage to the VMAs and Tracy Reese's wearable, sexy, Almost Famous-esque 70's-inspired collection, we asked a few boldface names in attendance who they consider to be the most fashionable musical artist.
What do you know, first we ran into Kelli Brooke Tomashoff, otherwise known as Kelli, the budding singer and Sebastian admirer, from Bravo's NYC Prep. We figured that she would have this answer down pat since one) she's a teenager and two) she's into music. And she did, quickly answering—"no doubt about it, Gwen Stefani." (And in case anyone is wondering and we know you are: Kelli tells us that "PC" Peterson is doing great.)
Next, on to a more established industry figure—Today Show correspondent Natalie Morales, looking amazing in Tracy Reese (we have such a girl crush on her right now). Morales enthusiastically name-checked the fabulous Lady Gaga saying that the singer is always "exciting" and "pushing the envelope", although she's "not sure about the meat costume." Yeah, some of us question that one, too.
Not to skew the next results, but we tried to veer supermodel and entrepreneur Beverly Johnson (looking flawlessly beautiful) away from the Gaga. Her friend tried to push Madonna insisting, "she keeps up!" But in a moment of inspiration, Johnson asked, "who's that new girl with the green hair? Not Rihanna, but...?" Hm...Nicki Minaj? "Yes! Nicki Minaj."
After the show concluded, we just caught Aisha Tyler (looking stunning in a blue Tracy Reese cocktail frock and simple bun) as she was getting up. After a moment of thought, Tyler admitted that she doesn't really think about fashion when it comes to music because she just loves the music and bands. Her favorite artists are the Roots and Silversun Pickups because, "it's more about how it [the music] makes me feel, as opposed to what they're wearing." Love it. Girl crushing again.
Here's the video of the final walk, complete with the backs of Angela Simmons' and Aisha Tyler's heads.
