Louis Vuitton Shortage

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Apparently there's some kind of Louis Vuitton monogram bag shortage going on in the world right now. Madison Ave. Spy reports: "According to one West Cost sales associate, the monogram shortage is 'world wide and has been going on for over a month, at least.' Each sales person we spoke to appeared to be reading from a similar script: 'The limited availability has stemmed from raising customer demand in leather goods. Our bags are all hand made and the increased demand has caused global shortages.'" Really? Shortage? Because of overwhelming demand or underproduction? We have a feeling that what Vuitton is calling a shortage, other companies just call a "wait list." Email us or leave a comment if you've unsuccessfully tried to buy a LV monogram bag. [MAS]
