Christian Audigier may have bought the Ed Hardy licensed and slapped some garish stuff on some overpriced T-shirts and baseball caps, but the real Ed Hardy, i.e. the legendary tattoo artist whose name has been relentlessly besmirched by the madding look-at-me crowd all these years, is still alive and well—and, it seems, eating pizza.
Our sister site, Eater San Francisco, found out where Hardy gets his pizza fix—at Tony Gemignani's:
Tony Gemignani of North Beach's Tony's Pizza Napoletana has partnered up with loyal customer and local tattoo artist Ed Hardy to create 10,000 special pizza boxes with the goal of raising $10,000 for each of his favorite charities. $3 from each pizza box sale is divvied up for the Hardqua Foundation—founded in partnership with Hardy to benefit children and literacy; Basketball City, bringing pro basketball players to speak to New York school kids about exercise, eating healthy and staying in school; and lastly, St. Vincent de Paul, which benefits local food banks and shelters. There's even an Ed Hardy Pizza at Tony's—a veggie melange of mushrooms, arugula, olives, and sea salt.
