MTV Japan's Shibuhara Girls Looks an Awful Lot Like The Hills

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Check out this trailer for new Japanese MTV show Shibuhara Girls. Did you get to the part where the girls give each other meaningful stares? Doesn't it look exactly like The Hills? Man, we miss The City and The Hills. The closest we're getting to despondent glances and sorrowful complicit exchanges in eye contact these days is Brothers & Sisters, but then Sally Field or Calista Flockhart's characters always pop into the scene and bust it up with some sort of breakdown or hysteria. Point is: we really wish we could understand Japanese right about now.
