Earlier this week, we brought you the saga of The-Coveted.com, a well-established style blog created in 2007 and run by Jennine Jacob, the founder of the Independent Fashion Bloggers Network (IFB). Last week, Erin Kleinberg and Stephanie Mark launched a blog called TheCoveted.com—a site devoted to photographing the wardrobes and closets of fashion industry insiders. When the new TheCoveted.com started getting lots of press hits—including here—the fashion blogosphere erupted, furious that TheCoveted.com had adopted the name of an already-established blog.
Today on the original The-Coveted.com, Jacob posted two letters: one from her lawyers to the new TheCoveted.com asking the new site to discontinue usage of the URL "thecoveted.com" and the name "The Coveted." "We would like to resolve this issue amicably and expeditiously," says the letter, "Given that your project is new, we do not believe that a transition to a new name will be difficult for you."
How did the new TheCoveted.com's lawyer respond? By threatening to sue the original The-Coveted.com and demanding that Jacob stop talking about the issue at hand. The new TheCoveted.com's lawyer's response, which appears, in part, above, says:
Our clients are bona fide purchasers of their domain name and were unaware of your clients' website. We demand that your clients immediately cease all such conduct. We reserve all further rights including the initiation of proceedings against Jennine Jacob and Coveted Media LLC seeking damages, injunctive relief and any other appropriate relief without any further notice to you or your clients in the event this conduct does not cease forthwith.· Response from TheCoveted.com: Don't talk about us or we'll sue [The-Coveted.com]
