San Diego pedicab passengers now have a much more fashionable—or sacrilegious, depending on your counterfeit designer tolerance-o-meter—ride, thanks to the Louis Vuitton pedicab we spotted on one of our downtown jaunts. Swathed in spring-y LV upholstery—think: Murakami LV minus the smiling flowers or eyes—and with pimp-y undercarriage lights, the pedicab's driver, who would only go by first name "Tony," explained how this faux designer ride came to be.
Racked: How'd you get this?
Tony: Uh, I got connections in L.A.
Racked: Did it come like this?
Tony: They sent me different materials to pick from and they make them.
Racked:: Swatches?
Tony: Yeah, lots of different ones. I liked this one because it was like summertime. I'm gonna get another one with the brown, though.
Racked: Oh, like the classic monogram!
Tony: Yeah.
We didn't know what was most mindblowing—the fact that this thing actually exists, or the fact that Tony picked out the fabric as if he were choosing drapes. We didn't bother checking if any LVs were in the seams to ensure authenticity, since we're pretty sure the house of Vuitton is not making pedicabs with purple lights and boom boxes in the back playing Young MC. — Christianna Ablahad
