Spring break in October is the new Christmas in July—Last night, Reyn Spooner swept us away to what felt like an ethereal underground beach party, as they held a private press preview for the showing of the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Hosted at Lani Kai, the Polynesian-themed restaurant and bar located on the border of SoHo, the event drew a sizable, fashionable crowd including hot editors Eugene Tong and Jared Flint, as well as several other menswear bloggers and editors. As attendees socialized and sipped drinks, dreamy music chimed above head, and a slow line-up of beach-ready models, sported the brand's new looks.
Wearing shades from California-based eye wear designer Garret Leight and standing before the fireplace with lush green foliage for their backdrop, the models embodied the sense of ease and effortless cool that the Hawaiian label has become known for. Reyn Spooner has been doing its thing since '56, and with slim floral printed shirts and mid-thigh-grazing board shorts, it stayed true to its brand image while still giving the impression of introducing a new effortless cool.
