After a joke about "never being invited to any real fashion shows" and the explanation that fashion weeks happen somewhere in the world nearly every week of the year, Vice Magazine let us in on a preview of their latest video venture, Fashion Week International.
With a Miami Vice-like title graphic, quirky subject matter, and a traditional journalism format featuring all of the sex, drugs and laughs expected of Vice, the series had no trouble keeping our interest—nor did it for our fellow press attendees, which was apparent by the constant laughter (brought on mostly from candid clips and unprovoked quotes from the series' subjects).
In a stark contrast to the stigmas of pretentiousness and body image confusion surrounding the fashion industry, each 20-minute episode (a fashion first for the mag) explores the little-known and at times, unbelievable fashion weeks taking place around the world.
The series' first episode is an interesting look into Pakistan's second ever fashion week, taking place underground in Islamabad. The second episode features coverage of New York's own first official Full Figured Fashion Week.
If these views-into-another-world themes don't spark your interest, maybe the lure from the company's press release will—Fashion Week International will give you a "unique take on the bitchiest industry around" with "the most crackpot fashion week themes and the stimulating characters behind them."
Fashion Week International's first episode will air on Vice.com October 6th.—Payton Wang
