Compared to the Missoni for Target complete and utter fiasco, Versace for H&M went off without too much of a hitch. The London launch was intense but not terrifying, the Fifth Avenue store in New York City still has pieces left in stock, the Herald Square store had personal shoppers, and even though the website crashed in the U.K., well, we don't even have H&M e-commerce so it didn't effect us much.
But of course, the collection hit eBay as early as the day after the launch party in New York. The craziest thing we found was that "autographed" picture of Nicki Minaj and Donatella Versace going for $1,000 (no bids.) And the "Kanye West jacket" is still up there for $750. So we asked eBay for a few stats to compare it to the Missoni for Target madness.
Missoni for Target had approximately 30,000 listings on eBay, but as of Saturday, Versace for H&M had only 7,000 new listings—meaning that number reflects the listings that arrived after the international launch and the bonanza preview.
The average price for a Versace for H&M item on eBay right now is $191, and the highest sold item was the leather gold stud trench coat for $899. There's no doubt that the markup for it was insane, but it did manage to stay under $1,000. As for searches, roughly 40,000 have been troving eBay to get their hands on the collection. Good thing they just announced one for spring.
