Today's Times profile on Carine Roitfeld is chock-full of quotable nuggets from the ex-French Vogue editor, who really wants to make sure you know that she's not wallowing at the loss of her job, and that now, she's more of a brand than ever. Author Eric Wilson has this analysis to offer: "Rarely has the stock price of a fashion figure shown such resilience, after taking a severe blow to the side, since Lady Duff-Gordon survived the sinking of the Titanic.
In the article, Roitfeld discusses her feud with her Vogue Paris successor and former friend Emmanuelle Alt, declaring herself "the winner." And as everyone knows, living well, writing a book, directing fashion campaigns, and starring in the Barneys windows is the best revenge, anyway.
Says Roitfeld:
This could have been a terrible year for me. It could have been very sad for me. I could have gone off to hide at a spa, or to Riyadh, but instead I changed my personality, and it has been a very successful year."
Could have, but she didn't. Instead, she did all of the above mentioned, and somehow still found the time to tell Karl Lagerfeld his fall couture models were a "bit fat."
