This year, we introduced a new weekly column: Buyer's Remorse. Penned by comedy writer Bonnie Datt and inspired by her own lamentable purchase of a chainmail vest ("for clubbing"), the column features items bought and later regretted by the rich and famous among us. We felt the end of the year was the perfect time to revisit the eight weirdest, wackiest, and most hilarious Buyer's Remorse moments of 2011, featuring the shopping mistakes of two comedians, one designer, one fashion muse, one actress, one eccentric figure skater, one cartoon character, and one Simon Doonan. Enjoy.
•Fashion muse Daphne Guinness on...blue jeans: "I don't really like the color."
•Comedian Mo Rocca on his $2700 light green cashmere jacket: "I returned it. Then I felt guilty about that, so I went back and repurchased it."
•Cartoon character Daria Morgendorffer on her Forever Lazy: " I was dismayed to find that, though I cinched the built-in hoodie as tight as I could, enough of my face still peeked through to tip my family off that it was me in there."
•Figure skaterJohnny Weir on his $400 Dolce & Gabbana jeans with patches, stripes and stars: "I was so proud of them when I bought them, and then I got home and was like, 'What am I going to wear this with? I only have sneakers! I'm sixteen!'"
•Actress Patti D'Arbanville on her gold Marc Jacobs boots: "To this day, I have never worn them. Not once. Not with anything. Not even naked alone in my room."
•Actress and comedian Molly Shannon on wrap-around shorts: "You kind of put them on like a diaper, then tie them around your waist—tying front and back strings."
•Designer Betsey Johnson on the things that aren't returnable: "My four husbands."
•Barneys Ambassador-at-Large Simon Doonan on teeny tiny panties: "It's about where I underestimate my changing statistics over the years."
