Last Minute Wallet-Friendly Valentine's Gift Idea: Forever 21 Lingerie

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

If you're strapped for cash but still want to buy your significant other (or yourself) a pretty/sexy pick-me-up in time for Valentine's Day, try Forever 21. Since 2007, the wallet-friend fast-fashion retailer has stocked a full lingerie department—with everything ranging from ultra-basics (white underpants) to long-line bras (right) to frilly lacy ruffly things.

We hit up Linda Chang, a senior exec at the company and the daughter of Forever 21 founders Don and Jin Sook Chang, to find out more about the skivvies on offer—and to get her picks on must-have favorites.

Racked: How may lingerie SKUs does a typical Forever 21 store stock?

Linda: Hundreds! We have a complete variety of intimates, so, literally hundreds. We have a lot of things—lace panties for $2.80, PJ sets, printed shorts, matching camis and tops. And we have our $4.50 convertible bra—I love it because there aren't that many options out there at such a low price, usually you're paying about $30 or $40 for a bra. Our $4.50 option is a five-way convertible—and the quality is great! The one I'm wearing today, I bought seven months ago.

Racked: What are some of your bestsellers?

Linda: It has to be our lace thong. It's one of those one-size-fits-all thongs and coes in really great colors—this season, we have neons. The quality is great and they're a fun, impulse buy at $2.80.

Racked: Do Forever 21 customers prefer thongs, briefs, or boyshorts?

Linda: Our thongs and boyshorts sell well compared to our regular bikini styles. Anything printed, fun, and bright tends to do really well.

Racked: Are you guys doing anything special for Valentine's Day?

Linda: We're not doing any special-edition products, but we have our big promotion going on—30% off sleepwear and intimates online! So even if you're wary of trying new lingerie, here's a less expensive way to try something and see if you like it.

Racked: What sort of lingerie trends are you seeing for spring?

Linda: We have lots of feminine florals, and the lace bralettes in a lot of bright and fun colors. There are some great color studies done and people are buying into more fun colors this season, so we're stocking up. We're also buying into more basics.

Racked: If you had $50 to spend on lingerie at Forever 21, what would you buy?

Linda: I went shopping online last night and I bought a bunch of lace thongs. I also got the lace bralette—there are some really pretty, soft colors. I bought peach because it looks really cute peeking out of a top.
