We're starting to feel like this Fashion Week's theme should be, "I've got a child," as designers and their celebrity guests popped up with progeny on or near runways throughout town. Liev Schrieber and his son Sasha watched Imitation. Stacey Bendet carried her two year old daughter Eloise (and soon to be born second child) around Alice + Olivia's presentation. And Violet Lepore joined her Mom, Nanette, in their biannual walk down the runway. But Milly was the only show we saw, where toddlers infiltrated both sides of the catwalk. Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her daughter Grace watched designer Michelle Smith walk with her own daughter, Sophia. Both children were dressed in what were obviously Milly Minis, the designer's line for the Milly-loving mother who wants her young daughter to dress like a Mini-Milly-Me version of herself—a funky Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
Joining the Hasselbeck women in the front row were Tinsley Mortimer, Louise Roe and Kristin Chenoweth, all dressed in the grownup version of the designer's line. They watched a parade of Sixties and Seventies inspired clothing including dresses, capes, gaucho-culottes, vests and other separates. Of course no Milly show would be complete without a few of her trademark coats, with their luxe gold buttons. Surprisingly, many of these Fall/Winter pieces had short, above-the-elbow sleeves. Obviously, the Milly woman can withstand cold temperatures. Or she wears layers.
Colors popped, as they always do at Milly, with emeralds, plums, blacks and eggplants, but the real showstoppers were the ensembles which combined sherbet-orange with shocking pink, and either bold red, purple or green pieces. There seemed to be fewer of the designer's bold signature prints this season, although a cheetah faux fur coat definitely caught the crowd's eye.
