A Fashion Week with no official Project Runway show to attend? No pregnant Heidi or Nina? No orange Michael Kors? No trying to guess which of the collections are decoys (And then getting frustrated when we later learn that some of the best ones weren't in the finals)? We felt like there was a big gaping hole in our Fashion Week dance card, until we realized that a few past runway-ites were all showing. So we thought we'd do a round-up of Irina Shabayeva's, Christian Siriano's, Malon Breton's, Althea Harper's and Daniel Vosovic's post Project Runway runways...
Who: Irina Shabayeva, Season Six Winner
Where: The Studio at the Lincoln Center Tents
What it looked like: Bulky knits, primary colors, dresses and gowns, laser cut-outs, some designs with big Swarovski crystals embedded
Reminded us of: Merry Go Round stores at the mall, circa 1988
Progression from her Project Runway collection: More colorful, less New York
Where Irina's clothing are available for sale: Irina for INC. (A special capsule collection for the Macy's brand); Wedding dresses at Kleinfeld's
Who was Front Row-ing: Celebrity stylists, legendary photographer Leee Childers
Make It Work Moment: A long black thread, hanging off the bottom of a gold lamé evening dress, followed the model down the runway like a tail
Who: Christian Siriano, Season Four Winner
Where: The Stage at the Lincoln Center Tents
What it looked like: Luxe looking blacks, olives and mauves in leather, wool and crepe appliqués; Suits for day and dramatic silhouettes for evening
Reminded us of: How a costume designer would dress the character of a fashion editor
Progression from his Project Runway collection: More wearable items, yet still very chic
Where Christian's clothing are available for sale: Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Spiegel Catalogue and Payless Shoes
Who was Front Row-ing: Mena Savari, Gabriel Union, Alexa Chung
Make It Work Moment: Two models couldn't handle Christian's high shoes and tripped, with one taking a dive—followed by huge applauds when she got up and finished her walk
Who: Daniel Vosovic, Season Two Finalist; All Star Challenge Winner
Where: The Metropolitan Pavilion
What it looked like: Primarily neutral colors, long lines that didn't always follow the body's shape, some designs were prairie influenced-in a sexual way, slacks with attached trains
Reminded us of: A couture Nellie Olson
Progression from his Project Runway collection: More sophisticated, no epaulets
Where Daniel's clothing are available for sale: We're not sure
Who was Front Row-ing: Bravo's Andy Cohen
Make It Work Moment: The poor crowd control of the neighboring Boy Meets Girl show accidentally led some guests, ahem, to attend the wrong show
Who: Malan Breton, Season Three
Where: The Metropolitan Pavilion
What it looked like: Dramatic and theatrical, including a Japanese inspired red wedding dress finale; Men's suits and vintage inspired women's wear in bright blues, reds, blacks and silvery grays
Reminded us of: A club-goer's version of Murder on the Orient Express
Progression from his Project Runway collection: He didn't show a collection
Where Malan's clothing are available for sale: Jewelry available on his website
Who was Front Row-ing: Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen from The Real Housewives of New York City
Make It Work Moment: A model doing a Japanese fan dance in a white kimono, momentarily had trouble finding the clasp on the belt to remove it, so that she could show off the white satin Breton cocktail dress underneath
Who: Althea Harper, Season Six Finalist
Where: A small presentation at art gallery Gallery Nine in SOHO; Online streaming at http://watchitoo.com/show/wjk-964
What it looked like: Slinky cocktail dresses in grays and blacks, tops and leggings with cut outs
Reminded us of: Richie Sambora's WTB collection
Progression from her PR collection: More rock and roll; Outfits fitted the models much better
Where Althea's clothing are available for sale: http://shop.altheaharper.com/
Who was Front Row-ing: The Presentation was covered by Elle Girl
Make It Work Moment: We could get a video of Althea being interviewed to play, but not one of the collection itself
