Tokyo is arguably the iron-fist ruler of the global street fashion scene. And while the street-snap phenomenon that began here is making certain American and European photographers rich, one Tokyo fashion school has decided to protect and cultivate local street fashion as a legitimately lucrative business with a course dedicated to it. The new Tokyo Street Fashion course at Vantan is a one-year program that delves into how to navigate both the intricate underground and “overground” Tokyo fashion scenes, as well as learning to exploit Tokyo’s cool factor to its utmost potential overseas with international instructors.
At the same time, Vantan has started another new program, called Girls Brand Planning, that focuses squarely on how to operate a Shibuya “gal”-style brand. This course offers to teach skills on social networking and utilizing the advertorial system (which essentially makes up every Gal magazine).
Sound pretty fun? All you need is a healthy understanding of Japanese and about $9k for each program. — Misha Janette
