Currently Burning Up the Roadways: The Hello Kitty Smart Car

New, 2 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's okay to stare. That's what the Hello Kitty Smart Car is around for?attention. This pink-as-a-strawberry-milkshake automobile has been driving around the country, first spotted earlier this month in and around Los Angeles, and now hitting the streets of New York as part of a Sephora promo.

Our sister site Racked NY has been covering the super kawaii mayhem surrounding the Soho cameos of Hello Kitty and one of her Tokyo-based designers, Yuko Yamaguchi, but Twitter has been quick to turn the car, not the cosmetics, into the sensation.

Get an eye-full while you can, however, as this car is a promotional item. To get your hands on one of your very own, you'll have to commit to driving around town in a Smart ForTwo car, purposefully customized with the "SmartExpression" Hello Kitty wrap. On the other hand, those obsessed with Hello Kitty are known to go to great lengths to get what they want regardless.
