Along with fellow fashion designers and luxury department stores, Gilt Groupe has joined in aiding the relief effort for the victims of the Japan tsunami and earthquake. Gilt City, the local arm of Gilt Groupe has partnered with non-profit GlobalGiving in rallying their members to donate to the cause. Gilt City shoppers now have the option to take their spending a step further by helping out the relief effort: From delivering books and supplies to children affected by the catastrophe to general emergency aid response.
Furthermore, Gilt City will match the profits from each donation. In Japan, Gilt City Tokyo has asked each of its members to donate 500 yen (approximately $6US), which Gilt City itself will match up to one million yen (roughly $12,000US) in donations to the Japan Red Cross.
In further philanthropic fashion news, Alexis Bittar announced that he will donate 100% of all sales made on his website next week to the Catholic Relief Services for Japan fund and Natori and Josie by Josie Natori will donate 10% of all sales through April to the Red Cross. Never has shopping felt so rewarding.
