These days, more than ever, the professional lines between PR and editorial are super-blurred. So many publicists we know have blogs and work side-gigs as fashion and beauty experts—for example, Michael Williams, a principal at Paul & Williams, has heritage-menswear blog A Continuous Lean; Jenn Falik from Alison Brod PR is a beauty television correspondent; Dina Fierro, the fashion director at Attention USA, has a fashion blog called Eye4Style.
And while, in the past, it may have been challenging for publicists to career-transition into editorial—early 2000s-crossovers included Nylon's current digital director Faran Krentcil who was previously an account exec assistant at Nike Communications and Refinery29's NY editor Kristian Laliberte, who used to be an account exec at Think PR—these days, it seems less of a conflict of interest than before.
Two recent appointments we think are particularly notable (read: we really like these guys): Starworks Group's digital media man John Jannuzzi has called it PR-quits and starts at Luckymag.com next week and today we got the official word that Polo Ralph Lauren's PR Director for Menswear Lance Lin is the new fashion editor at GQ covering the American market. Congratulations all around.
