Free Gun With Dish Network Sign-Up

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Depending on how you see it, this is either the worst or one of the most creative gift-with-purchase deals ever. A RadioShack in Montana is offering customers a free gun when they subscribe to the Dish Network. "Protect yourself with Dish Network. Sign up now, get free gun," says the marquee sign outside the store. Consumerist reports: "To qualify for the deal, customers have to sign up for Dish service and installation and purchase a certain amount of related equipment from the store. They are then given a gift certificate for a local gun store where they have the option of a Hi Point 380 pistol or a 20-gauge shotgun. The gun store runs the proper background checks on all customers before giving out any firearms. 'We're not just giving guns to felons,' said the Shack manager. If the customer doesn't want—or doesn't pass the background check for—a gun, they can receive a $50 Pizza Hut gift card." Yeah, we'd opt for the pizza, thanks. [Consumerist]
