Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We can't imagine Elle Macpherson normally spends much time plunked down on an ottoman in the Manhattan Hilton's ballroom, but that's where we found her today during NBC's Fall Season Upfront presentation party for advertisers. Macpherson's upcoming reality show, Fashion Star, wasn't announced during the actual presentation—although it was included in the press release.

We tracked her down to find out why.

Racked: We were looking for you! What's going on with Fashion Star? It wasn't announced.

Elle Macpherson: We're actually not in the Fall line up, we're in the Spring line up, which is the first quarter of 2012. We're shooting now but we're going to air in sixth months.

Racked: Are you shooting in New York?

Macpherson: We're shooting in LA.

Racked: Can you tell us anything about the show and what it will be like?

Macpherson: At the moment we're casting for twelve aspiring designers and basically the show is a behind the scenes look at what it takes to get a brand in the stores. Everyone likes to shop, so it's tapped into the American psyche in that sense, but it's really about what is creatively involved in getting a brand to market.

Racked: Were you involved from the beginning or did they come to you?

Macpherson: We've been working together on a concept around this, for a couple of years. This is the first time a fashion reality show has come to network television. They've always been on cable, so for us it's a huge honor to be leading that movement.

Racked: Will you be bringing designers in as guests?

Macpherson: Yes, we'll be having a lot of guests, I think the guests are going to be just as interesting as the contestants. It's too soon to talk about exactly who, yet.
