Met Ball Coverage Kicks Off Tonight: Will Kate Middleton's Dress Make a Surprise Appearance in the Exhibit?

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

New York's biggest industry party of the year kicks off in voyeur form this afternoon when eccentric socialite/muse Daphne Guinness dresses in the windows of Barneys' flagship for tonight's Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala—this year honoring the late great Lee Alexander McQueen. Our sister site Racked NY will be tracking all Met Ball movements minute-by-minute live starting with Guinness and red carpet arrivals.

PS We're hearing rumors that the Alexander McQueen gown Kate Middleton a.k.a. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wore at her royal wedding on Friday morning has/will be flown over for the Costume Institute exhibit, which opens to the public on Wednesday. We have no idea if there's any truth to these speculations, but we've got our fingers crossed.
