Jennifer Chun may be a fairly new name on the fashion scene, but the work experience of this New York transplant, by way of Ohio, speaks volumes on her talent and skills. After studying at Pratt Institute, Chun went on to design for Michael Kors, Derek Lam, and then Brian Reyes. In the Fall of 2010, she launched her namesake collection.
Jennifer Chun: As the wedding day approached my husband Steve had to take care of everything because I was working on Brian Reyes' SS07 show. I got married on September 23, 2006—a little less than a week after NYFW! My dress wasn't ready until the Thursday before the wedding.
The day of, we were making our way to the church on Park Avenue and my sister left her purse on the street in front of our apartment so we had to drive all the way back. But we were lucky—two girls came across it and held on to it where it had been left.
We finally got to the church and the air conditioner wasn't working so it was so humid! As I was preparing to walk down the aisle the necklace that I made my sister broke and there were beads everywhere. She was so upset by it that I insisted on finding some of the beads and fixing it for her before I walked out. My husband Steve said people were starting to wonder where I was!
After the church, we went to the Meatpacking District to take the bridal party photos. Steve's brother Michael received a call from the reception site Sunwest Studios that the DJ wasn't coming. The photographer caught it all on camera—Michael getting the call, Steve telling me, and my reaction. I was smiling because it was out of my control and Steve said something to make me feel better and laugh. He has that effect on me. He always calms me and makes me laugh even if its a disaster. In the end the DJ came and nothing else went wrong. The rest of the night was perfect.
