Gwyneth Paltrow Makes Mid-Priced Product Recommendations

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We don't subscribe to GOOP, actress Gwyneth Paltrow's weekly screed on fine living, but, somehow, once in a while, Paltrow manages to find her way into our inbox anyway—this time as a guest-editor of Alice + Olivia's Stacey Bendet's 4 a.m. Finds newsletter. Surprisingly, the spread is a selection of not-Whoa priced products and refreshingly free of the usual smug Paltrow humblebrag.

The contrast between Bendet and Paltrow's product captions is pretty funny, though—see the Comme des Garcons candle that Paltrow describes as, "Jaisalmer = My current home scent," and Bendet says, "Probably preferred to my current home scent, burnt pancakes." Or the Thornback and Peel dish towel, which Paltrow describes as "A standout in the kitchen," and Bendet writes, "I'm into anything that makes a kitchen look good to compensate for my cooking!" Yeah, we dig the funny.
