Welcome to Summer Beauty, our weekend coverage of this season's hair and makeup trends, as applied by masters in the biz on some very exceptional models. We headed over to the Hudson Guild Fulton Center and the Greenwich House Senior Center to photograph the finest ladies around in this summer's most sought-after looks. While doing so, we even learned a few tips to help us get through July and August—without breaking too much of a sweat.

Here, makeup artists Cynthia Rose decided to go with one of the season's biggest trends—a bright, hot pink lip. An obvious choice, because after all, what better way to compliment Arcdia's floral button-down? For this trend, Cynthia emphasizes that it's best to keep the focus on your lips: "I kept everything pretty minimal. I used bronzer as well, which is obviously very summery." To get that bright pout, Cynthia used Makeup Forever Aqua Lip in 16C and finished it off with a magenta Makeup Forever gloss.
And for Arcdias 'do, hairstylist Dayler Chagas kept it simple: "She has longer hair so we used a lot of volumizer on the roots to create that texture, and we pretty much blew it out, flipped everything under, and then lightly combed everything." To achieve that volume, Dayler uses Barex mousse, Phyto volumizer, and finishes it all off with L'Oreal Elnett hairspray.
For summer skin, Cynthia opts to keep it light, for every age: "For mature skin, you really want to make sure that you moisturize really well, and that you use a primer, because that's going to help things from setting into lines. Primer is good for anybody, really, in the summer because it keeps your makeup from slipping. Lighter coverage for mature skin, even lighter coverage for anybody for summer because you'll sweat it off." She also recommends using tinted moisturizers with an SPF, or sheering down your own foundation with a moisturizer. And of course, bright pink lips.
As for your hair, Dayler suggests attacking summer frizz with spunk: "I always tell people to do something fun—twist the hair to the side, wear a little barrette. So this way, you can just tame the hair without really pinning it down, but you won't have everything going all over the place." For seniors, Dayler says he mixes a light gel with a KeSARI serum together to tackle frizz, proving that some things will always be a battle, no matter how old you are.
