Welcome to Summer Beauty, our weekend coverage of this season's hair and makeup trends, as applied by masters in the biz on some very exceptional models. We headed over to the Hudson Guild Fulton Center and the Greenwich House Senior Center to photograph the finest ladies around in this summer's most sought-after looks. While doing so, we even learned a few tips to help us get through July and August—without breaking too much of a sweat.

Hairstylist Robert Stuart of the Robert Stuart Salon believes that when it comes to your hair, the cut is the most important. "It's really about the haircut more than anything else, because if you blow dry it in the summer, it's not going to stay very long." That's why he's a fan of wash-and-go and using minimal products—just enough to get a little bit of scrunch. For Zibrada, he shaped the back and sides of her hair to give it a little bit more movement, and softened her bangs by making them uneven. He used Moroccanoil oil treatment and luminous spray, Phyto sculpting gel, and pomade from Japanese-brand Spice to get the look.
Makeup artist Susmta Patel brought out Zibrada's dark eyes and olive complexion with blue eyeshadows and matte foundation. For her lids, she used Christian Dior 368 blue eyeshadow, Joe Blasco brow liner, MAC A32 lipstick, and finished it off with a Joe Blasco light burnt orange blush. Underneath it all is a combination of Lancôme and Laura Mercier liquid foundations, which helped her get the right color for Zibrada's complexion.
For summer hairstyles, Robert sticks to his guns about keeping it pretty product-free. "I think the trends of the summer would be something like wash-and-wear, scrunch, and leave the house. And then that's it." Because most importantly, "The bottom line is that, you know, it's nice to be liberated from your hair."
Since the humidity usually does more harm than good for your skin in the summer, Sustma reiterates that it's important to keep your face makeup matte, and that your summer makeup should compliment your summer clothes. "It's very important to not use too much shimmer, because during the day it takes away from everything. You're wearing casual clothing, so you must have the look that also goes with it. Instead of sharp lines, smudged lines would look nice."
