Time for another installment of Racked National's travel feature, Summer Fridays, where we show you snapshots from the fabulous adventures of fabulous people in the fashion industry. So come with us, take a little breather on this Friday, and let us whisk you away to a faraway (and sometimes near) locale.
This week's Summer Fridays postcard is from Susan Cernek. Cernek is the Executive Online Editor for Fashion and Beauty at Glamour. Hailing from New Hampshire, Cernek went on to study Art History at Smith College and interned at the Met's Costume Institute. Prior to Glamour, she was the Fashion Features Editor for Elle magazine and helmed the fashion channels of Glam Media. Cernek went to Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast for her honeymoon and shares with us some of her favorite shots. It's definitely one of those gorgeous, 'wish you were here' moments.
Susan Cernek: It's pretty much impossible to name drop a small design hotel on the Amalfi Coast without sounding pretentious, but when asked for a favorite summer getaway, I guiltily mention Gio Ponti's Parco dei Principi in Sorrento. My husband and I had the good fortune of stumbling upon this hidden gem during our honeymoon.
I had the added good luck of wearing a vintage Betsey Johnson romper that happened to be perfectly color-coordinated with Ponti's famous blue and white tiles—just the thing for the Instagram files. We plopped down in the impossibly chic lounge (furnished with Ponti's 899 chairs and sofas), ordered a spritz (Aperol, prosecco, soda, sliver of orange) and spent the sun-drenched afternoon admiring the flawless and—even more impressive—almost completely untouched '60s design tableau. If I could beam myself anywhere on any given day, this place would top my list.
