Obsession: Level Naturals' Menthol & Eucalyptus Shower Bombs

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's like a minty Alka-Seltzer for your shower—and we're pretty sure we're in love it. The Level Naturals Shower Bomb is a little tablet of all-natural menthol-y eucalyptus-y goodness you drop at your feet in the shower. It catches the steam and fills up your bathroom with its super-aromatherapy experience.

Actually, we're pretty obsessed with all of Level's products—the LA-based American-made skincare brand makes all-natural bar soaps, bath bombs, shower products, and candles. Founded by BFFs Sabrina Roberson and Jonathan Dubuque, the company was started in the middle of a massive downpour on a farm in Hawaii.

"Two years ago, my business partner Sabrina and I were on our farm in Hawaii waiting out what was promised to be the 'storm of the century,'" Dubuque said. "Stores were completely out of food and water, but they did have wine and cheese, so we made the best of a wet situation. We put the Rat Pack on the stereo, pulled the dogs and cats up in the hammock on the porch with us and started laying out plans for the company.

"One of my first jobs was doing hair, so I was certified in skincare and hair care, and it was something I knew a lot about. Sabrina is a massage therapist, doula, and an aromatherapist (not to mention about 400 other jobs she has, it’s amazing she finds time to sleep).

"We took what we knew best, and spent a year training ourselves on how to make soap, mix massage creams, formulate lip balms, press bath bombs and generally making a mess and have a blast in the process. We really worked on mastering the formulations and studied what was good for the skin. A year later, aromatherapy, skin science, and a serious desire to make a positive change to the planet all got melted down and poured into bars of soap and body butter and LEVEL Naturals was born."
