Obsession of the Day: The Mr. Porter Post's Guide to How to Undress in Front of a Lady

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Thing we got in the mail today: The Mr. Porter Post, this amazing broadsheet-y publication featuring lots of fun editorial content—including well-dressed New York men about town, tips on new places to dine and drink, a list of great drives to take in the US and abroad, and a handy-dandy guide to fountain pen nibs.

Of all the fun features, our favorite is this one, above, called How to Undress in Front of a Lady—a step-by-step guide to disrobing in the most gentlemanly (or least scarily-abruptly) way possible. The gist? De-accessorize yourself first, then work from top to toe. And when you get to the pants?

The "pants" issue is something we women talk about more than men imagine. My female friends cite a man's poor taste in underwear as something of a date-night deal breaker, so take note and take care when choosing them. Keep them neat, plain and clean—cartoon patterns have no place in your trousers. When it comes to removing them, leave it till the time seems right.
